RO: Spune NU desfiinţării ASTRA FILM FESTIVAL!

Astra Film Festival 2014 a fost exclus de la finanţare din Agenda Culturală a Sibiului, adoptată joi, 27 martie 2014, de către Consiliul Local al Municipiului Sibiu.

Este inacceptabilă atitudinea sfidătoare şi lipsită de transparenţă a Primăriei Sibiu care nu a oferit nicio explicaţie privind neselectarea proiectului Astra Film Festival şi nu a dat niciun răspuns contestaţiei depuse de Astra Film.

Este revoltător ca Primăria Sibiului să refuze susţinerea acestui festival, un brand 100% sibian acreditat internaţional, cu o tradiţie de peste 20 de ani, recunoscut pentru:

-         oferta de cinema de non-ficţiune de înaltă clasă, prin filme din toată lumea;

-         spaţiu de interacţiune pe subiecte fierbinţi între public şi cineaşti;

-         susţinerea documentarului românesc;

-         originalitatea programării;

-         Astra Film Junior, cel mai iubit festival al copiilor din România;

-         rolul în obţinerea titulaturii Sibiu – Capitală Culturală Europeană, în 2007.

Ca un paradox, în decursul aceleiaşi săptămâni, Astra Film Festival a fost desemnat Festivalul Anului în România la Gala Premiilor Radio România Cultural, în timp ce Consiliul Local şi Primăria Municipiului Sibiu decideau excluderea festivalului de pe Agenda Culturală a oraşului.

În acest context, ediţia din 2014 se află în pericol.

SEMNEAZĂ ACEASTĂ PETIŢIE PENTRU CA PRIMĂRIA SIBIULUI SĂ NU DESFIINŢEZE ASTRA FILM FESTIVAL!

Astra Film Festival 2014, The Sibiu International Festival of Documentary Film, has been excluded from the list of cultural events that receive public funding from the local budget this year. The decision has been voted on Thursday, 27 March, by the Municipal Council.

Astra Film Festival is renowned for its high-quality original programming and its interactive style,  for promoting Romanian documentary film internationally, for having initiated the highly appreciated Astra Film junior Festival for young audiences, and for its important contribution in obtaining for Sibiu  the title of European Cultural Capital, in 2007.

The list of approved cultural projects is the result of a selection process conducted by the Sibiu City. The applications were evaluated by a committee appointed by the mayor. Assessment criteria included the value of the project, its impact on the local cultural life, the experience of the management team, and results of previous editions. The appointed committee graded Astra Film Festival under the qualification level. Astra Film officially contested the result, demanding for explanations. The answer of the Sibiu City officials was late and vague.

We consider the attitude of the Sibiu city both defying and untransparent. It is an outrage that the Sibiu Municipality refuses to support an internationally acclaimed film festival with twenty years of experience, which has become a cultural brand for the city.

Paradoxically, during one and the same week, Astra Film Festival won the prize of Best Festival in Romania in 2013, awarded by the National Radio RRC, at the same time when the Municipal Council and the City of Sibiu were deciding that Astra Film Festival does not deserve to be on the local cultural agenda.

Under the above circumstances, Astra Film Festival 2014 may be cancelled.
